When you use your trailer a lot, you may find that the floor or deck of it wears down over time. Instead of buying a new trailer, why not replace the floorboards so that your trailer is good as new again? Here are the steps you’ll want to take to do just that.

Gather Tools

First, you should get together the tools you’ll need for trailer deck repair, including hammers, screwdrivers, a drill with multiple attachments, bolts, washers, nuts, and self-tapping screws to connect the wood to the metal frame. Measure the floorboards in your trailer to see how wide and long they are so you can swap them out easily.

Remove Old Boards

You can use many different tools to remove the old boards on your trailer. Unscrewing the screws may work, but you may need to saw the boards to take them out in pieces, carefully avoiding the metal frame as you do. You can also use a pry bar to pull the wood up.

Clean Frame

You can use a wire brush attachment on a drill to clean the metal around the bottom of your frame to remove rust and debris. You’ll also want to grind down the screw heads or hammer them off carefully.

Replace Wood

Now it’s time to lay down the new boards and anchor them into the frame securely. Do the end and side boards first, then the bottom. You’ll need to screw through the trailer deck boards into the metal frame beneath them to hold them into place.
